FAQ

FAQ

What makes Asia Weekly different from other weekly magazines with Asian coverage?

Asia Weekly follows a unique executive summary style or digest format. It breaks down, summarizes and puts into perspective what other news organizations are writing or broadcasting. It is designed to be read within an hour.

This editorial style gives Asia Weekly a wider and more objective balance than other news magazines reporting on Asia. Every week, Asia Weekly's team of journalists and researchers trawls through hundreds of reports from all around Asia and beyond, before analyzing and breaking this information down into a balanced digest of news and briefs that reflect a wide range of views. Also, Asia Weekly is independently owned and is committed to reporting on Asia emphasizing what local media are saying.

So Asia Weekly doesn't generate any of its own news stories?

Yes. What makes us unique is that we research what all other media are reporting and select the most important, entertaining and exciting stories from the region. We do not have local news bureaus but we do provide our own expert analysis of major issues and controversies.

Asia Weekly is written in an accessible style for all readers, including those who speak English as a second language. Asia Weekly deals with serious political, economic and social issues but it also has a lighter side, offering some of the best gossip about celebrities and politicians, and plenty of quirky stories. The aim is to keep the reader interested and entertained, with a balanced mix of information from around Asia.

What is the typical Asia Weekly reader profile?

Asia Weekly appeals to a varied subscriber base, which includes individuals with an interest in Asian affairs, business people, researchers, academics, risk analysts, Asia watchers, decision makers and journalists. Anyone living or traveling in Asia is a potential reader or subscriber.

What is Asia Weekly's positioning in the marketplace?

Asia Weekly fills a void left after the demise of Asiaweek and the Far Eastern Economic Review (no longer a weekly, but now a monthly). For decades these weekly magazines helped people living in the region and outside it come to grips with the trends and events of many different and diverse countries.

Can I try the magazine out for free first before committing to a subscription?

Please email subscriptions@asia-weekly.com. All we need is your name, mailing address, email address and phone number. Also you can sign up to receive our newsletter for free on this website.

What's the difference between Asiaweek and Asia Weekly? Are they not the same publication?

Asia Weekly has no association whatsoever with Asiaweek magazine, which ceased publication with its December 7, 2001 issue.

What about the website www.asiaweekly.com? Is it related to www.asia-weekly.com?

No. This is a completely different website, offering links to other websites and information about Asia. So be careful to put the hyphen (-) between "asia" and "weekly" when typing in the website address of Asia Weekly. We are www.asia-weekly.com!

What about the website www.AsianWeek.com? Is there any connection with Asia Weekly?

Again, this has no connection with our website (www.asia-weekly.com). www.AsianWeek.com is a U.S. website catering to overseas Asian communities in the San Francisco Bay area.

What about the Chinese-language weekly newspaper called "Yazhou Zhoukan," which is often translated as "Asia Weekly" in English?

Yazhou Zhoukan is a Hong Kong-based weekly news magazine, which started in 1987. It is printed in simplified Chinese characters. It has no connection whatsoever to the LSC Group's Asia Weekly publication, which has been registered in Hong Kong in accordance with the relevant publications legislation.

I'm already a subscriber to Asia Views. So I don't need to subscribe to Asia Weekly because both magazines cover what's going on in Asia, right?

Wrong. First of all, Asia Views is a complimentary monthly magazine, unlike Asia Weekly, which is privately owned and published every week.

Asia Views contains only around a dozen feature articles every month, while Asia Weekly offers its readers hundreds of short articles carefully sourced from thousands of reports on the region every week.

Does Asia Weekly offer electronic subscriptions?

Yes. Asia Weekly offers electronic subscriptions for US $25 per year. If a subscriber wishes to subscribe to both the hard copy and soft copy of the magazine, the electronic subscription gets discounted to US $10 per year.
