Indochina indulgence
Ho Chi Minh City is a place where "the horn never sleeps," but there are many options in Vietnam's countryside, where luxury travellers can find respite from the maddening crowds, says Sharon Fowler in The Australian. The Dalat Palace is a sanctuary where "whisper-quiet staff" pad around walls laden with French Impressionist reproductions in the hope of anticipating guests' every whim. The hotel maintains "the illusion of vintage Paris," and it's easy to forget oneself when sitting in Le Rabelais restaurant's "brocade-covered chairs," beside a roaring hearth, or sipping wine looking out over landscaped gardens to the flickering lights beyond. From there, it's a short hop to Life Resort's beachside Quy Nhon complex, where the French window-style doors "transform every room into an open-air space" and ensure the sound of "breaking waves" pervades right to the resort's inner sanctum. All rooms overlook the palm-peppered beach, and the two-tone horizon where sea meets sky remains visible even from within the "lovely" glass-paneled shower. Guests can finish the day with a blissful "four-hand Vietnamese massage" in the cozy hillside spa.
